and heading for HOME!
Ron, Katie and I just finished watching the movie,
"42"
about Jackie Robinson.
The hall of fame athlete and first African American
professional baseball player.
I was choked with emotion watching such a
talented and classy player
act with so much dignity, respect and class.
At the end of the movie Jackie Robinson hits a home run
and the baseball announcer calls out...
"He's rounding third base and heading for home."
I realized that those words were very profound
in more ways than one.
These words
especially made me think of my daughter
RACHEL.
Since moving to Cortina six years ago with only
five weeks of her 2nd grade year left...
she has grown into
an amazingly talented, gifted, kind, and beautiful girl
both inside and out.

When I asked her why she didn't try for the award last year
she told me,
"I just didn't really care...it didn't matter to me!"
This year
the night before her last FINAL she sat down at our kitchen table with a list from all her teachers.
The list was her assignments and grades from the last semester.
I asked her what she was going to do with that list and she said,
"Get all my scores HIGHER!"
I asked her why that was necessary when all her grades were already "A's"...
She told me,
"I want them to be high A's!"
Something has CLICKED!
She isn't the same girl who moved out here six years ago!
She isn't the same girl...
that doesn't care about just being good...
she IS the girl who is learning what she is capable of becoming!
She has finally rounded third base...
and is heading for HOME!
